STRUCTURAL CARBON STEEL PLATE

DESCRIPTION

ASTM A36 is a structural quality carbon steel for use in welded, bolted or riveted construction of bridges and buildings, and for general structural purposes. 

Minimum yield strength of 36 ksi (250 MPa) is required to meet the requirements of A36. 

ASTM A36 plate is used in a variety of applications which include, but not limited to; railroad cars, trucks, agriculture equipment, trailers, construction equipment, buildings and bridges.

DESCRIPTION


A structural steel plate grade specified within G40.21 of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). This grade is utilized in general fabrication and construction. 

It is also referred to as 300W, which is its metric designation. This material is also available as Charpy tested when referenced with a "T", such as 44WT / 300WT. 

When Charpy tests are required, the category will be indicated. The values of these categories are outlined below in mechanical properties.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

  • Tensile: 65 to 85 ksi
  • Yield: 44 ksi min
  • Elongation: 20% min in 8” 23% min in 2”
  • CAT 1 (32°F): 15 ft/lbs
  • CAT 2 (0°F): 15 ft/lbs
  • CAT 3 (-20°F): 15 ft/lbs
  • CAT 4 (-50°F): 15 ft/lbs

HIGH STRENGTH LOW ALLOY

STEEL PLATE


DESCRIPTION


A high-strength low-alloy steel plate that is utilized in a variety of structural applications. 

This specification is produced in Grades 42, 50, 55, 60 & 65, the grades representing the yield strength. 

Plates that are 4” and thicker are made to a 42 KSI yield, although material can be modified to reach the 50 KSI min yield.

A572 Gr. 50:
  • Tensile: 65 ksi min
  • Yield: 50 ksi min
  • Elongation: 16% min in 8" 19% min in 2" (for plates wider than 24")
A572 Gr. 55:
  • Tensile: 70 ksi min

DESCRIPTION


An atmospheric corrosion-resistant weldable notch-tough steel plate grade specified within G40.21 of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). This plate is utilized primarily in structural applications such as bridges and buildings. When properly exposed to the atmosphere, this steel plate can be utilized in its bare condition (unpainted). It is also referred to as 350A, which is its metric designation. This material is also available as Charpy tested when referenced with a "T", such as 50AT / 350AT. When Charpy tests are required, the category will be indicated. The values of these categories are outlined below in mechanical properties.

  • Tensile: 65 to 95 ksi
  • Yield: 50 ksi min
